Hi-tech Interrogation Rooms
Vijayan IPS was the brain behind designing hi-tech interrogation rooms in all districts. Taking cue from advanced interrogation facilities in Western countries like the one at Scotland Yard, a highly sophisticated system with interrogator being supported from outside without the suspect knowing it and entire procedure being recorded remotely was designed.
Police Station as Basic Training Units
It was the original idea mooted by P. Vijayan IPS that police stations be treated as the first units in policing procedure and hence need to be converted as training units for enhancing the efficiency of the force. As per his vision, 50 police stations in the State were converted as Basic Training Units.
Road Safety and Traffic Training Centre
Spreading awareness about road safety was given accent under this programme. Six mobile traffic training parks with interactive terminals and projectors, that keep on moving from place to place, were commissioned to teach children about traffic rules. A Traffic Training School was also set up in Kerala Police Academy to train personnel.
Cyber Training Lab Special facilities were incorporated under the Forensic Science Laboratory of the Kerala Police to train the police personnel in Cyber Forensics. This was done as per the vision of P. Vijayan IPS to update the State Police to the changing terrain of crime.
Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) This system replaces the conventional method of collecting fingerprints of suspects and criminals using ink. This engages a high resolution fingerprint scanner and connected server which is operational round-the-clock. Data of more than 1.5 lakh criminals have been collected using this system that connects all 20 fingerprint bureaus in the State
