Health is an absolute wealth for any individual. Building a healthy community is the fundamental step towards a positive and productive society that makes a better tomorrow happen for us. Ensuring the physical and mental well-being of citizens will be the key to creating a brighter tomorrow.

Doctors Help Desk

Nanma Doctors Desk is another initiative that began during the pandemic as many regions were cut off due to the intermittent lockdown. The helpdesk volunteers, with the support of a dedicated helpline number, register the details of the patients and arranges tele-counseling facilities. A pool of doctors belonging to various specialties has offered their voluntary service for the smooth functioning of the initiative.

Drug Bank

Kerala is home to the largest number of people living with lifestyle diseases (Non-Communicable Diseases). Normal life is possible for patients with these ailments if they have a constant and consistent intake of medicines. But there are a large number of patients who cannot afford to buy these medicines regularly. Many of them were being supported by the NCD clinics in Primary Health Centres, District Mental Health Programmes by the Government, and also philanthropists. The current crisis caused by COVID-19 seriously affected these patients, as the focus of the health care system got shifted to prevention of the virus infections, loss of jobs and income due to lockdown and slump in the economy, and change in priorities in households. He initiated community-owned drug banks with the collective effort of professional organizations, social groups, Kerala Police, SPC to identify and distribute medicines to the most deserving patients.

Professional Training in Bereavement Support

      Professional Training in Bereavement Support is a five hour foundation course designed for professionals in mental health. Jointly organised by Mission Better Tomorrow, Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (IMHANS), Kozhikode and, Death Literacy Institute, Australia, Professional Training in Bereavement Support offers intensive training on evidence-based practice in bereavement support. The participants completing this training develops a thorough understanding about grief and bereavement theories, people who present with grief and loss, assessment of the risk factors in complicated grief, and evidence-based treatments for complicated grief.

Foundation Course in Bereavement Companionship

Death is a constant of human life, and every person experiences bereavement in their lifetime. This is a period of intense grief with different people experiencing a range of complex emotions. Societies and cultures have developed various mechanisms for helping individuals cope with bereavement. Over the years, the circumstances behind and features of bereavement have changed. New challenges have been highlighted and previously hidden societal changes have come to light. Increasing feelings of isolation and inability to communicate openly with family have compounded grief. Rituals related to death have changed, leading to confusion and distress. 

Foundation Course in Bereavement Companionship programme organised as a collaborative venture of Mission Better Tomorrow, Death Literacy, Australia and Institute of Palliative Medicine WHOCC helps communities and neighbourhoods build the capacity to support members during times of grief. The programme aims to sensitise the maximum number of people to the short-term and long-term needs of individuals in grief. And to help develop personal skills to effectively intervene in the bereavement process. 

Health Care Assistant Programme

Increasing life expectancy, global disease transition from communicable to non-communicable diseases and breaking up of extended families have generated huge demand for home-based care for people with advanced diseases, the elderly, bedridden and dying people all over the world. There is an increased demand for home based health care assistance for these groups which are grossly unmet due to various reasons. A curriculum-based training, assessment and certification can bring out a group of professionally trained health care assistants who can deliver quality care to the target group. There is also a need to ensure safety and security of the beneficiary and the domiciliary carers. The programme also aims to address this issue. 

 HCA program is an attempt to create a workforce of professionally trained Health Care Assistants and establish a system that ensures dignified and secure work space for them. This is conceptualised as a Joint venture of Social Policing Directorate, Mission Better Tomorrow  and IPM World Health Organization Collaborating Centre 

God’s Own Children(GOC)

He initiated a unique project through the ‘Mission Better Tomorrow’ (MBT) to improve the quality of life for intellectually challenged children from economically backward families. Many of them would not have a room that is designed to meet their requirements. Through this initiative, Nanma Foundation would modify their houses with the construction of a bathroom-attached differently-abled friendly room. The project will be financially supported by the public, mostly from among the audience of the ongoing PosPoss Talk Show, an online flagship program of MBT.
