  • Temple Theft Special Investigation Team
This is a special force formed to handle temple theft cases. In an amazing response, as many as 800 cases were solved in just 4 months and brought down instances of thefts related to temples considerably. In recognition to the effort, the First St. George Award was given to P. Vijayan IPS

  • Talk with Cops
This was another innovative thought mooted by P. Vijayan IPS where the State Police Chief is to engage directly with the police personnel under him, starting from the Civil Police Officers. This proved to enhance the morale of the force and thus increase the efficiency put in by individual policeman.

  • Senior Mentoring System
Vijayan IPS introduced the concept of seniors mentoring juniors so that the accrued intelligence and experience of seniors can be passed on to the juniors.

  • Shadow Policing
This is another key pre-emptive policing device conceived by P. Vijayan IPS. The core idea is to deploy plainclothesmen in different potential crime scenes. The beauty of this system is that it is not designed as a top-down hierarchy and every policeman collaborating with each other. The invisibility of official police attire works two-ways, as a deterrent among criminals and an assurance among common public.

  • Pink Auto
With focus on improving the safety of women in public spaces, P. Vijayan IPS introduced the concept of Pink Auto, where public transport vehicles are operated by women for women. This was the first in a series of women-oriented policing measures that were adopted by Kerala Police.

  • Subhayatra
This is another initiative, launched under the supervision of P. Vijayan IPS and later scaled up and rolled out across the State. Subhayatra is a Road Safety Awareness Programme, aimed at imparting basic road safety measures and publicising them among a wider audience.
  • Special Investigation Support Team
This is a continuation of the Temple Theft Special Investigation Team and formed with the aim to extend focussed crime fighting to a wider realm. The basic operational structure was similar to that of TTSIT and hence proved effective in checking crimes.

  • Child Friendly Police Stations
In a major outreach move, P. Vijayan IPS formulated a strategy to convert select police stations in the State to child-friendly centres. This was a significant upgradation for police stations from the point of view of Community Policing. The entire ambience of police stations was revised to make it less intimidating and police personnel were given specialised training to handle children delicately.

  • Domestic Conflict Resolution Centres
This was a timely response to needs reported from the society. The lockdown necessitated by Covid-19 pandemic shot up instances of domestic violence. In response, under the guidance of P. Vijayan IPS, Domestic Conflict Resolution Centres (DCRCs) were launched. As many as 8,000 cases were resolved during the lockdown period.

  • Clean Campus Safe Campus
Taking up the goal of ensuring healthy and safe childhood as a vision, P. Vijayan IPS launched the campaign for wiping out the menace of narcotic drugs and other substance abuses from school campuses. In a multi-pronged approach, information was gathered about possible avenues for drug peddling and immediate corrective actions were initiated.

  • SOP for Care and Protection for Children
Children require extra care as they are the most vulnerable segment in any society. Hence, P. Vijayan IPS suggested drawing up a Standard Operating Procedure for schools and other educational institutions to ensure a protective coverage for all children alike.
